BEIJING, June 20 (Xinhua) -- China's State Grid on Friday donated nearly 3,000 wheelchairs to 17 airports for use by disabled people participating in the Beijing Olympic Games and the Paralympics.
The donation includes 215 wheelchairs, 938 narrow-sized wheelchairs, 1,790 standard-sized wheelchairs and 12 electric cars.
More than 4,000 disabled athletes from more than 100 countries and regions will come to China for the Beijing Paralympic Games on September 6 to 17. About 2,700 athletes will use various kinds of wheelchairs.
"The wheelchairs will help all the airports create barrier-free transportation for the athletes," Lu Shiming, executive vice-president of the China Disabled Persons' Federation, said.
The State Grid is one of the official partners of the Olympic Games.
